Adult Art Class 101(C): Oil and Acrylic Painting
Building on what was covered in Adult Art Class 101(A), we will begin this session by exploring the colour wheel best used for oil/acrylic painting, some colour theory and the importance of value in painting. There will be a discussion on the different solvents and mediums used in oil painting and how they can be combined to achieve desired effects. A local guest artist will be on-hand to demonstrate how to mix paints by hand, using pigments and solvents: students will have the opportunity to assist.
We will learn to create studies using oil pastels and paper and translate those studies to actual paintings. Once you have had the opportunity to explore oil painting, we will take the opportunity to explore acrylic painting and the differences between the two mediums. Critique will continue to take place throughout the session.
